Why Engagement Rate Matters More Than Follower Count
A million passive followers can’t beat ten thousand who actually listen. Here’s how to read engagement properly.

Follower count is a vanity metric. Engagement rate is a performance metric. If you only track one number when evaluating creators, track engagement.
What engagement actually measures
It's the share of an audience that interacts with content — likes, comments, saves, shares. High engagement means a creator's audience is paying attention, which is the precondition for them paying attention to you.
Benchmarks by tier
Smaller accounts tend to have higher engagement. A 2% rate on a macro account can be healthy, while a micro creator might see 6–10%. Always compare within a tier, not across them.
Watch for inflated engagement
Engagement pods and giveaway loops can fake the number. We look at comment quality and save/share ratios to separate real attention from manufactured activity.
